Sterling Public Schools has canceled for tomorrow, Tuesday January 16th.
This decision is based on the extreme cold windchill temperatures that will reach 30 to 40 below zero tomorrow morning in Sterling. In fact, the National Weather Service has issued both a Severe Wind Chill Advisory and a Hazardous Weather Advisory for Sterling.
We wanted to communicate this decision tonight so our families could make plans for child care tomorrow. Stay safe and stay warm!

This decision is based on the National Weather Service’s Severe Winter Storm Warning for Sterling, IL where they are forecasting snow amounts between 6 and 12 inches then followed by 40 mph winds. With these conditions, our country roads will be extremely dangerous, making bus routes almost impossible to travel. We wanted to communicate this decision tonight so families could make plans for child care tomorrow.
Wednesday (1/10/24) is a PLC Early Dismissal. Jefferson and Franklin dismissal is 2:05 (preschool normal dismissal time 2:15). Lincoln and Washington dismissal is 1:55. CMS dismissal is 2:00. SHS dismissal is 1:55.

Our very first Future Educator Club alumni winter social was a blast! We had current SHS students, current college students, current teaching staff, AND retired educators all under one roof . There was a 55 year graduation gap between our oldest and youngest grads, and it’s so exciting to think that while teaching changes all the time, the heart of WHO teaches does not. We even hosted a contract signing for one of our graduating alumni who will be teaching for SPS next year!

Hello 6 blue parents,
I have an update for our final week of games. Tonight we play at home against east coloma. In our last game we were supposed to be playing the A game but the coach for East Coloma decided to play his B team against us which Coach James, myself , and Erin Sester thought was an unfair choice. I was told we would be playing the A team tonight, so we will wait and see what happens. We are listed as playing 2nd and we will be playing at that time, 5:00. Even though we are playing second we will still be playing the A team. Game is home. Tomorrow we are playing at Montmorency, bus will be leaving at 4:15 and we will be taking a yellow bus. Please sign your child out before leaving!!!!!!! On Thursday we will have our "last" home game. Game is at 4, players will need to be in the athletic center at 3:30. Both Wednesday and Thursday are only 1 game. On Monday we will be holding an exhibition game at 3:30 where the Blue and Gold teams will be playing each other. There will be a ref and the players will be invited to come to Coach James' room after the game for a end of the year pizza party.
Keep up the great attendance routine this year! As we approach the end of the semester, we can check to see if your child is on track to stay in the green zone for attendance. If they have missed less than five days 1st semester, they are on track to meet their attendance goal at the end of the school year! Positive attendance is the first step to academic success!
Hello 6th grade basketball parents, I wanted to send out a reminder that we DO NOT have a game at Princeton tomorrow, and the tournament this weekend has also been cancelled. Coach and I wanted to send this message out to update you on stuff this week.
Hello 6th blue basketball parents, I have an update for you on our game today, we were playing at 6 BUT we had the games switched around so we will be playing first and gold will be after. The bus will be leaving at 4:15 from the athletic center we will be taking a yellow bus. I wanted to remind you that we DO NOT have a game tomorrow. We will be playing home on Wednesday, we play at 5. Players will need to be at the athletic center at 4:30. See everyone at the game tonight.

Tomorrow the blue team will be traveling to Oregon to have 2 games. We will be taking a Warrior Wagon and leaving at 2:45. We will have normal practice on Thursday 3-4:30. Our next game will be after break on Monday at East Coloma. The bus will be leaving at 4:15 from the athletic center. We will be playing at 6, please sign your kid out before leaving.
