What an incredible FFA Chapter Showcase! 🌱
The leadership, confidence, and professionalism our students displayed was outstanding. It was inspiring to see over 15 FFA chapters come together to highlight how Ag education builds career pathways, partnerships, and real-world skills.
The future of agriculture and leadership is in great hands! 💙

Crazy For A Cure 2026🎗️Honoree Spotlight: Madilyn (Barnhart) Kaiser
Madilyn Barnhart was a graduate of the Sterling High School class of 2020. While at SHS she was a dedicated student and athlete, competing all four years in Cross Country and Track & Field. She continued her education at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where she found her love for agricultural economics, traveling, and her now-husband, Mason.
Two years ago, after moving back to the area, Madilyn was diagnosed with a malignant giant cell tumor. Her initial treatment plan was focused on shrinking the size of the tumor; however, there was already enough irreparable damage done that caused the need for a complete knee and partial tibia replacement. While recovering, Maddy and her husband were welcomed with some positive news - they were to expect a baby girl in January! At her six-month check-in, unfortunately, there was a recurrence of the tumor in her leg, with the only treatment option left being an above-the-knee amputation. Her surgery was on Halloween of 2025 and at six months pregnant was successful in removing the tumor while also keeping her daughter safe and healthy.
The next step of Madilyn's journey includes being fitted for her prosthetic and learning to walk again. She is incredibly motivated to progress through her recovery, as on January 19th, she and her husband welcomed their daughter Amelia. She will continue to work with Northwestern on her prosthetic and physical therapy.
Come out and support Kathryn and Madilyn at our 12th annual Crazy for a Cure this Thursday (Girls Basketball Game) & Friday (Boys Basketball Game)

Crazy For A Cure 2026 🎗️ Honoree Spotlight: Kathryn Rowzee
Kathryn Rowzee served as Student Council Vice President during the 2021 - 2022 school year and graduated from Sterling High School in 2023. During her time at SHS, she was extremely active, participating in volleyball, basketball, softball and track and field, and was such a talented athlete that she committed to the University of Dubuque for Track and Field.
Last August, Kathryn discovered some unfortunate news: she had parosteal osteosarcoma which required an above the knee amputation. Kathryn received a prosthetic leg in late December and learned to walk with assistance. She currently has a little over half of her chemotherapy left, about 3 months remaining.
Kathryn will graduate from the University of Dubuque in 2028 with a degree in elementary and math education. We hope our proceeds can aid in Kathryn's navigation of her treatment. Kathryn continues to amaze us with her constantly positive attitude and her strength inspires us all. She is a true warrior through and through. 💛 #fightlikeawarrior

The 12th annual 🎗️Crazy for a Cure🎗️ is right around the corner and we are honoring two of our very own SPS graduates: All proceeds from this event will go towards former SPS students: Kathryn Rowzee '23 and Madilyn (Barnhart) Kaiser '20 who, ironically, are both suffering from bone related cancers resulting in leg amputation. We're hoping to rally our community bigger than ever before to show our support for two wonderful women in hopes that our support can help uplift them during these difficult times.
The Crazy for a Cure 2026 main events take place during the Girls Basketball game on Thursday, January 29 vs Alleman and Boys Basketball game on Friday, January 30 vs. Quincy.
At these games, we will be selling raffle tickets for various donated items and baked goods - winners will be announced between 3rd and 4th quarters of both basketball games!
Those looking to help in other ways, can do so by donating a baked good or raffle basket for either or both nights of our events. Please contact Nicole Schlemmer or Alexis Ruiz if you are interested in providing a donation of any kind.
This year, we are offering 12 shirt colors in honor of different cancers with a lavender option to honor all. - the price is $12 for Youth Small - Adult XL, and $14 for extended sizes 2X & 3X. If you are interested in purchasing a shirt, the orders are due via Google Form order on Wednesday, January 21. Scan the QR Code on the flyer to place an order or click HERE.

Last night was the third annual Future Educator Club Winter Social Alumni event! SHS students, SHS alumni currently in college, and SPS staff came together to talk about careers in education—the challenges, the highlights, and the joy of caring for children ❤️ We shared great conversations, played games, laughed, and celebrated our passion for education. Cheers to 2026 and to hopefully seeing some of these students return as future SPS staff!
