Tomorrow begins 2nd semester! This is a great opportunity to continue the progress students have made so far, or use it as a clean slate! Both grades and behavior points reset. Keep in mind that student assignments/assessments the first few weeks of school can significantly impact eligibility for extra curricular activities. We can’t wait to see you back at school tomorrow!

Listening to Jaime Casap speak, the Chief Educational Officer at Google. Great quote from him, “We need to keep teaching problem-solving, critical thinking, collaboration, the ability to learn, and creativity. I hate it though when these are called “soft skills.” They are not soft skills, they are essential skills.”

CMS October G.O.A.T. Award Winner Interview: Meet Mrs. Derrer 1. Do you think you deserve the GOAT award? I’m not sure how to answer that, there are so many awesome teachers in this school! 2. When did you start teaching? I started 19 years ago. 3. What was your favorite subject in school? Math. But it wasn’t my easiest subject! 4. Why did you become a teacher? I love kids and helping people, and especially love helping them learn. 5. What do you miss about being in school? When I got to talk to my friends. If you don’t believe me, ask Mrs. Goff! 6. What is your favorite math problem? Any algebra problem. 7. Do you do any hobbies? I do quite a few! My favorite is ceramics. I also coach softball, volleyball, and basketball. 8. What is the best thing about being a teacher? To give students the confidence they have inside of them. 9. When did you start thinking you wanted to be a teacher? In 8th grade. 10. What is your favorite student story? A student that I don’t think likes math, or school in general, writes me a letter saying they liked my class a couple years down the road. 11. Tell us about your family. I have three children. Mylanah, who goes to IMSA, Landon, who loves sports, and Ellah, she loves to write stories and sew. My husband Ryan builds houses and has his own business. We have been married for 15 years! 12. What is a fun fact not many people know about you? I graduated school a year early. I started kindergarten at 4 and graduated at 17.
